Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked – I’m usually not a fan of sequels but, I have to say that this new Chipmunk movie looks like it has some potential to be entertaining for the kids (duh) and the adults who take them to the theater. The first movie was funny and this one seems like it will be too. I will probably take my little sister to see it with her friends. With the age group that this movie is marketed for you really can’t go wrong. How can the kids not like this? It’s a bonus for the parents when they throw in some double entendres or allude to films the kids might be too young to remember (titanic). That being said, if I had no kids to take to the theater to watch this I probably would never see it. The voices are still being done by the same actors which I really appreciate. I hate it when continuity is broken by changing actors in sequels. The movie has great potential for a nice family outing during Christmas vacation. I will definitely be watching this with the little sister and her friends. Of course, I wouldn’t really consider watching the movie otherwise. It’s not really a date movie or anything of the sort. It really is just family friendly fun and anyone with kids knows how important it is to take kids to age appropriate films. This is definitely one film to look forward to during the holidays.

Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked  – Honestly, this movie looks terrible. I’ve seen the original Alvin and the Chipmunks, as well as Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel, and was horribly disappointed with both. What I’m most disappointed about is that Jason Lee signed on for the third installment of the trilogy. You’d think he’d have learned by now that movies like this, despite making him a popular hit with the under-4-years-old demographic, take a heavy blow at his credibility with the rest of the movie watching world. The cheap and obvious play on the one scene Titanic is most known for will fall short of those actually interested in watching it (once again, those who aren’t yet potty trained), and will make the supervising parents cringe in discomfort. In fact, if I was 3 years old and was subjected to watch this animation as a full feature film, I might have refused potty training my entire toddler career out of spite. I can’t believe that this played-out franchise hasn’t died yet. This is the kind of movie I would expect to be released straight to DVD, and only as a coffee coaster or as a shiny disc to use in making a disco ball, for it would be too much of a waste to use a blank recordable disc. This movie looks unoriginal and difficult to sit through. As a constant movie-goer who typically loves GOOD animated films, my only expectation for this one is that it will crash and sink just as the Titanic did.

Oh God, not another Chipmunks movie. Although I was a big fan of the Chipmunks when I was a kid – the old version, of course – I cannot stand these movies. Somehow their voices are 10 times more annoying than in the classic cartoons. That being said, I laughed out loud at the opening of the trailer, with “My Heart Will Go On” and the chipmunk doing the Rose style move. Pretty funny if they’re going to spoof the Titanic, I think that might be pretty good. The Titanic was a pretty bad movie also. Still though, not going to see this movie. I’m still haunted by the Chipmunk’s version of “Bad Day” from the first movie, which I never saw. Wasn’t there a second one, too? Dumb. Gotta be the most annoying kid’s movie of all time. There’s absolutely no way this is going to be good. Plus the trailer doesn’t even give enough information about the movie, so it doesn’t look super good. They should have quit with the Chipmunks a long time ago, as much as I did love it back then. The Chipmunks Christmas song is definitely a classic and brings back awesome memories of my childhood at Christmastime. My last question is, who takes Chipmunks on a cruise? Clearly, that’s stupid. These movies are only funny for retarded 4 year olds and that’s probably it. This movie will probably be pure trash and the ratings will reflect it. What a waste of time.
