This movie looks like a fun twist on the classic summer fun horror flick in the lines of Nightmare on Elm Street and Scream. Unlike other animal-based horror flicks like Anaconda and Arachnophobia, this movie looks to be of higher production value. It looks entertaining enough, but the idea has been played out a good number of times. Sharks have been done to death, but always seem to get a rise out of the audience (think the Jaws series, Open Water, etc.) It looks like the movie has plenty of laughs and fun leading up to the horror story, and seems to also feature plenty of coy action and sexual undertones. The movie also appears to have some twists, though, beyond the standard over-sized animal horror movie. How did the sharks get in the lake? Did someone put them there and why? In many ways, it sounds almost like an M. Night Shyamalan movie. That also means, though, that the movie has limited replay value, and will probably be a one-time deal in terms of viewing. The fact that the movie is being released in 3D will add another dimension to the fear, because of the added element of immersion. I imagine that you actually feel like you’re underwater with the sharks in several scenes, which is enough to scare plenty of people out of lakes for at least a few days. I would probably hesitate to see this one in theaters, though, and would instead reserve it for a fun night in with some friends over popcorn and drinks.

Shark Night revolves around a group of college friends who spend the weekend at a lake, only to discover that danger lurks beneath its waters. The hope is that it will be Jaws for the 3D generation. The story revolves around seven male and female college friends who spend a weekend at a lake house in Louisiana’s Gulf area. When their vacation quickly becomes a nightmare of hellish shark attacks, unheard of in freshwater lakes, they soon discover that the sharks are part of a sick, greedy plan on the part of several locals. You can’t claim that you didn’t see this coming after the surprising success that was Piranha 3D. I’m talking about Shark Night 3D. The first trailer has surfaced and it smells of fantastic grade-B, party-gone-wrong cheese (it’s what made the 80s so memorable). Seven college kids set upon a house on a small lake island for sun, suds and sex but are dished a healthy serving of man-eating sharks instead. The only thing it is missing is Brit bombshell Kelly Brooke (who managed to look magnificent getting torn to shreds by piranhas), although Sara Paxton is some consolation. The horrible trailer for One Day before Midnight in Paris was made up for by the Shark Night 3D poster I saw afterward. One of these days, I’ll be able to fight the urge to see terrible movies. But for now, WHO WANTS TO SEE SHARK NIGHT 3D W/ ME. Shark Night 3D stars Sara Paxton, Chris Carmack, Joel David Moore, Katharine McPhee, Chris Zylka, Dustin Milligan, Alyssa Diaz, Donal Logue and Sinqua Walls.

Shark Night 3D looks incredibly tacky. I’d expect more from the makers of Hostel. You know the movie is destined to be bad when the most recognizable actor is the tall, lanky guy from Avatar. The other actors look wooden and I only saw a minute of footage. I guess the idea was to find decent looking people and cast them immediately, but that doesn’t cut down on the bore factor any. I understand that it is going for the cheap, B movie horror vibe, but honestly why bother? The CG effects look like they were made by fifth graders. There is no credibility to the sharks what so ever. Don’t even get me started on the story. The premise is gigantic killer sharks in a lake for crying out loud! Hardly groundbreaking, or even remotely original. Not to mention this idea has been beat to death a thousand times, from Lake Placcid to Piranha 3d. I wouldn’t have you pay me to watch it, let alone shell out the extra movie to see stilted 3d effects grafted on. The whole package looks cheesy, and uninspiring. The movie takes what could be a fun concept and vomits all over it. I wouldn’t recommend this to anyone with half a brain.

Shark Night 3D Hanging out, having fun with friends out on the ultimate vacation! Beautiful girls with guys at a lake house on an island! All is well until sharks begin to appear in the water. They soon realize there are sharks on the island and quickly become shark bait. Can they survive the nightmare! Director David R. Ellis is no stranger to horror movies. He was successful in directing Final Destination 2 and the fourth installment of that film series. Final Destination was amazing! It showed death in crazy ways. I felt that each Final Destination movie was able to out-do the previous one. David also gained critiques and hype for his film Snakes on a Plane. Ving Rhames and Sara Paxton are great actors. Dustin Milligan is known for his role in 90210 and I’m excited to see him in a different role. He was one of my favorite actors on 90210 and I was very upset to hear that he would no longer be a part of the show. Former American Idol contestant Katherine McPhee shows us she can act as well as sing. This movie keeps you guessing as to what would happen next and how will they survive if any can survive the shark attacks. A great intro in the beginning, college friends going on a vacation -looks fun and sexy at first, but then becomes deadly. I’m excited to be able to watch this movie in 3D. It looks scary already but watching it in 3D will make the movie come more alive.
