Shutter Island is a forthcoming movie directed by Martin Scorsese. It is a horror thriller, starring Leonardo DiCaprio. The movie is based on a 2003 novel with the same name, written by Dennis Lehane. Production of the film began in March 2008. The film was initially scheduled to be released in October 2009, however its release has been delayed and now, the movie is slated to be released in February 2010. It is being co produced by Paramount Pictures and Columbia Pictures.

The movie is based in 1954, when two U.S. marshals, Teddy Daniels (played by Leonardo Dicaprio) and Chuck Aule (played by Mark Ruffalo), who are on a mission to investigate the unexplained disappearance of a patient, who was an inmate of a hospital for criminally insane, located on an island in the Massachusetts region. The marshals run into trouble while they get deceived by the chief administrator of the hospital. Further trouble arises, as a hurricane hits the area and an inmate riot erupts and they get trapped on the island.

Production of the movie took place in the Taunton area of Massachusetts for filming the World War II scenes of the character of Dicaprio, who is a former soldier. The scenes were filmed in old industrial buildings of Whittenton Mills Complex in Taunton, which resembled the Dachau concentration camps. Some scenes were also filmed at old Medfield State Hospital of Massachusetts. Apart from that, Peddocks Island was also used as setting for the island, whereas East Point, in Nahant, was used as setting for lighthouse scenes. Filming of the movie ended in July 2008.

The movie boasts of an impressive cast and apart from actors like Leonardo DiCaprio and Mark Ruffalo, it includes actors like Ben Kingsley (as the chief physician, Dr. John Cawley), Michelle Williams (as Daniels’ wife Dolores Chanal), Emily Mortimer (as the escaped patient Rachel Solando), Max von Sydow (as Dr. Jeremiah Naering, who is one of the top physicians of the hospital), Jackie Earle Haley (as mutilated patient George Noyce), Ted Levine (as Warden of the Hospital), John Carroll Lynch (as Deputy Warden of the Hospital, McPherson), Elias Koteas (as Andrew Laeddis) and Patricia Clarkson (as Ethel Barton).
