From the director of “Gone Baby Gone” comes “The Town,” the new thriller in the vein of hit films such as “The Departed.” Ben Affleck writes, directs and stars in this project about a professional thief whose life is thrown in jeopardy after he falls in love with a bank manager. “Mad Men” star Jon Hamm stars as an FBI agent who is hot on his trail and close to figuring out the truth behind his identity. The film features an all-star cast of both seasoned veterans and up-and-coming thespians. Co-starring in the film is Jeremy Renner, fresh off his Oscar-nominated turn in the Best Picture winner “The Hurt Locker,” Blake Lively as a mysterious unwed mother (quite a change from her stint on TV’s hit “Gossip Girl”), Rebecca Hall as the love interest in the middle of it all and Academy Award winner Chris Cooper. The film looks thrilling, intense and unpredictable and appears to be a story where every character is flawed and, more importantly, every character has something to hide. Filmed entirely on location in Affleck’s hometown of Boston, Massachusetts, the film is due for a premiere at the Toronto Film Festival in September before being released nationwide on September 17, 2010. It wouldn’t be a surprise if this was a dark horse awards contender given the cast and pedigree, and is definitely a film to watch during the fall movie season. It promises many exciting twists and turns and is sure to be an incredibly satisfying movie going experience.

I love the masks in this movie. It kind of makes me want to pick up an old hockey goalie mask, spray paint it black with cool stripes, put on some pads, and get a gun and rob people! Just kidding, but this bad ass movie looks like a real good film. I love grungy gangster movies like there where the gangsters are not all flashy. They seem more real, like real people who are trying to do what it takes to make it to the top.
